MI vs GG WPL 2025 Today Match Report:
Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Giants by 5 wickets to claim their first win in the Women’s Premier League 2025. The standout performer for Mumbai was Nat Sciver-Brunt, who made a significant impact with both bat and ball. Sciver-Brunt scored a match-winning 57 runs, which included a well-paced half-century, and also took 2 crucial wickets with the ball. Her all-round performance played a key role in Mumbai’s successful chase. With this win, Mumbai moved up to third place in the points table, having gathered 2 points from the match.
The match took place at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, where the team winning the toss emerged victorious once again. Mumbai’s decision to bowl first proved to be the right one, as their bowlers made early breakthroughs, sending half of Gujarat’s team back to the pavilion for just 43 runs. Harleen Deol was the top scorer for Gujarat with a gritty 32-run knock, and Kashvi Gautam contributed 20 runs to help Gujarat reach a total of 120 runs in 20 overs. Despite the lower total, Gujarat’s middle-order struggled to accelerate and capitalized on very few opportunities.
Mumbai’s Chase:
Chasing a target of 121 runs, Mumbai Indians didn’t have the ideal start. Opening batter Hayley Matthews was dismissed for just 17 runs, while Yastika Bhatia was dismissed cheaply for just 4 runs. Mumbai’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, continued her poor form, falling for just 4 runs as well. With Mumbai in a tricky position at 30/3, Nat Sciver-Brunt stepped up and anchored the chase. She formed a vital partnership of 45 runs with Amelia Kerr, which proved crucial for Mumbai’s recovery. Kerr contributed a valuable 19 runs before being dismissed. However, it was Sciver-Brunt’s steady knock that ensured Mumbai crossed the finish line without further loss. Her 57-run innings took Mumbai to a comfortable victory, finishing at 121/5 in 19.3 overs.

WPL 2025 Points Table Update:
Before this match, Mumbai Indians had lost their only previous match and were positioned at the fourth spot in the points table. This win helped them move up to third place, collecting 2 important points. Gujarat Giants, despite their loss, remain in second place due to their superior net run rate. Gujarat’s performance in their opening matches has been inconsistent, winning one match out of three.
Currently, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are on top of the points table with a strong 4 points from 2 matches. RCB’s impressive performances so far have put them in the driving seat early in the tournament.
